An ever increasing diversification. In 1940, Benedito Moreira Curimbaba, a viosionary and pioneer in the Brazilian mineral sector, created a mining company, with deep roots in the earth, in the famous mountains near the city of Poços de Caldas, in the south fo the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
Benedito Moreira Curimbaba was a strong believer in the “fields” of Poços de Caldas, which were considered to be of little economic value at the time, since they were cluttered with stones that prevented the cultivation of crops and were consequently thought to be useless. With scarce resources, he started to invest in mineral deposits and to develop uses for potassic rocks as fertilizer. Later, in 1950, he started a one-man operation, called Benedito Moreira Curimbaba.
A little over a decade later, in 1961, he teamed up with his son, Sebastião Curimbaba, to form Mineração Curimbaba Ltda., as the successor to the initial business.
The company has consolidated its activities in bauxite-based products, some of which are offered to the market on an exclusive basis.
At Mineração Curimbaba, bauxite is the raw material for a diversified series of products for the petrochemical industry, as solder for welding, jet-blasting, ceramics, refractories, clarification of mineral oils and agrochemicals.
Currently, the company generates more than 800 direct employment opportunities, in addition to indirect ones, and is constituted by two units in Poços de Caldas: Ponte Preta and Campo do Meio.
Curimbaba produces more than 200,000 tons a year of finished products, including fused and calcined bauxite, as well as dry, calcined and fused refractory clays.
Most of the firm’s production is exported to the United States, Europe and South America.
